U's boss wants his side to play with control and rhythm this weekend

23 February 2024

Colchester United boss Danny Cowley says he wants his side to play with ‘control and find their rhythm’ when they take on Sutton United on Saturday afternoon.

Coming off the back of a disappointing 1-1 draw against Accrington Stanley at the JobServe Community Stadium last weekend, the U’s Head Coach says it has been positive for his side to have a full week of training, and they will not be underestimating their struggling opponents.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s match in South London, Cowley said: “It’s one we’re really looking forward to. Sutton haven’t had it all their own way in terms of points this season. But they carry a real threat and should have won a lot more points than they have.

“We know what to expect: a team that play very quickly, like to get balls in the box, like to get numbers in your box, and ask questions of the team defensively. I think we have to be good enough to compete with that. We then have to earn the right, and make sure we play with control and find our rhythm. That’s what we’ve been working on all week.

“Sutton are a team that have some really dangerous attributes, and we have to make sure that we’re prepared for that. But we’ve had a good week ourselves – took a lot of learning from the game on Saturday and I think we’ll be better for it.”
